SIS Services

We offer a wide range of services for the community. Most services are free for clients referred by a GP/Psychiatrist or Paediatrician under the Medicare scheme. Behaviour Intervention services are free for individuals with a disability who have challenging behaviours and live in a DSA Specialist Intervention Service funded area.

Autism specific services are now available under the Australian Government's Helping Children with Autism Scheme and the Better Start Early Intervention Scheme.

Fee For Service

The Specialist Intervention Service offers all programs as a fee for service. This includes the following programs / services:

  • Behaviour Intervention and Support
  • Cognitive Assessments
  • Legal Reports (Guardianship / Court)
  • Individual assessment
  • Counselling
  • Training for staff, parents, community groups, schools, GP's and other professional groups
  • Group work - skill development
  • Consultation

Assessments

The Specialist Intervention Services are able to provide assessments in the following areas:

  • Psychology Assessments
  • Specific individual assessments (cognitive, adaptive, functional analysis, support needs, eligibility, communication, vocational) and reports (including reports for the Guardianship Tribunal)
  • Independent living for people with an intellectual / developmental disability
  • Special Purpose Assessment (e.g. risk or mental health)

Therapy and counselling

Our consultant psychologists are experienced in developing and providing interventions to children, adolescents and adults. We specialise in services for people with developmental and psychiatric disabilities (including Dual Diagnosis and Autism Spectrum).

We offer:

  • Assessments (Intellectual Disability, Autism Spectrum Inc. assessments and reports for the Guardianship Tribunal)
  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
  • Dual Diagnosis (Intellectual Disability and Mental Health) assessments and intervention
  • Psycho-education (e.g. sexual knowledge programs)
  • Behaviour intervention and support
  • Interventions and therapy for anxiety and depression
  • Relaxation strategies
  • Autism and disability consultancy services
  • Skills training including:                     
    • Problem Solving Skills
    • Anger Management
    • Social Skills Training
    • Communication Training
    • Stress Management
    • Parenting Skills Training
    • Counselling to staff working in a disability field

Clinic rooms are located in Redfern, Bankstown, Campbelltown, Blacktown and Moss Vale (see locations) for Medicare clients. Outreach services available for eligible clients.

Most services are free for clients referred by a GP/psychiatrist or paediatrician under the Medicare scheme.

Behaviour Intervention and Support

SIS specialised in creating personalised services to assist in managing challenging behaviour in children, adolescents and adults with disability. Our services for behaviour support include:

  • Specialist Intervention* (behaviour and communication support) for people with a disability who live the in the community and have challenging behaviours.
  • Behaviour and program support for people with multiple disabilities & challenging behaviours, who access other DSA services.
  • 24-hour On Call Crisis Support for DSA Lifestyle projects.

*This service is free of charge for people with a disability (12 years +) who have challenging behaviours, no funding for behaviour support and live in the Local Government Areas of Sydney's Inner West and South East Sydney.

Training

DSA's Specialist Intervention Services team offers a suite of training programmes to develop your knowledge in disability related areas and to help you make the best use of your current human resources.

We provide training for:

  • People with a disability
  • People with mental health concerns
  • Workplaces
  • Community groups

Skill Development Programs

SIS develop and deliver specific and individualised skill development programs for groups throughout Australia.

We can provide skills development programs or individualised sessions on the following subjects:

  • Anger management
  • Social skills
  • Underpinning workplace skills
  • Stress management
  • Problem solving skills

Our skill development programs can be written for any age group and for most abilities.

Consultancy

DSA Specialist Intervention Services are able to offer consultancy services to other Non Government Organisation as well as Government Agencies throughout Australia.

Our areas of specialty include:

  • Autism
  • Disability specific
  • Mental health

Early Intervention 0 – 6 years

The Specialist Intervention Services are able to offer the following services under the Australian Government's Helping Children with Autism Scheme:

  • Diagnostic Assessments of Autism Spectrum Disorders (0 - 12yrs)
  • Behaviour and Communication Intervention (0 - 15yrs)
  • Early Intervention for Children with ASD (0 - 6yrs)

Placements and Supervision

Psychologist Supervision Program for Registration with Australian Health Professionals Registration Association (AHPRA).

We can provide placements and supervision for the following pathways:

  • 4 + 2
  • 5 + 1

Masters

Our programs are designed for graduates who have special interest in the disability field, however many of the previous participants in the graduation program have been offered positions in education, mental health and community services. We also provide workshops on the development of practical psychological skills which meet the requirements for training on the core capabilities associated with a Provisional Registration Program. The workshops are focused on the development of practical psychology skills.

To be eligible, you must be:

  • A graduate of 4-year approved qualifications in psychology
  • Conditionally registered (or eligible for registration) with AHPRA

Internal Clinical Services

We also provide services to people with a disability who live in DSA supported accommodation and have challenging behaviours. Staff who support these clients are also offered services from SIS.

The services offered to DSA clients and staff include:

  • Generic psychology services
  • Psychology Assessments
  • Specific individual assessments (cognitive, adaptive, functional analysis, support needs, eligibility, communication, vocational) and reports (including reports for the Guardianship Tribunal)
  • Specialist Intervention - behaviour and communication support
  • Program support
  • 24-hour On Call Crisis Support for DSA Lifestyle staff
  • Consultation and information on challenging behaviours, various disability types and their impact on a persons life, mental illness and support strategies.
  • Customised Training for staff
  • Community Awareness and Education Programs
  • Counselling
