A Job

Transition to Work

Do you want to work and you have just finished or will be finishing school soon?

Your school may have already completed an assessment or you may be undertaking that assessment soon.

It will determine what state government support you may be eligible for when you leave school.

If deemed eligible you may receive access to funding from ADHC (Ageing, Disability and Home Care) for a 2 year work readiness program called Transition to Work (TTW). As DSAs Transition to Work an Employment Consultant will work with you to find our your employment goals. For some people thinking about their employment career and choosing an exciting job can be daunting - there are so many to choose from. A great benefit of the Transition to Work program is that it provides you with a range of individualised prevocational training including job sampling and work experience to help you choose what job you would like.

DSA's Transition to Work team are here to work with you. It's your life, your future, your choice. People who choose DSA as their Transition to Work provider will work closely with their Employment Consultant and support staff to identify their personal employment goals and develop strategies to achieve these goals. What job you would like to do and what training and skills you will need to get you there (e.g. obtaining a drivers licence, obtaining formal qualifications and further education).

Having a job is important to different people for different reasons – you might want some extra spending money, or to develop a career. Work might be a place to develop social supports and contribute to your community. We listen to you to understand what help you might need.

A range of assistance options are available to help you get the job that you want, and maintain employment. Transition to Work can assist you to prepare Resumes and job applications, enrol in further training or vocational courses, market your skills to employers and provide ongoing, onsite support in your workplace - including assistance to access Workplace Modifications funding and equipment, or Disability Awareness Training for employers. Your DSA Employment Consultant will work closely with you to help you identify the types of supports that will best assist you.

Through the Transition to Work Program DSA has had great success in supporting young adults to gain and maintain employment in fields as diverse as hospitality, horticulture, office administration, retail, transport and logistics and childcare – and everything in between!
